Introducing AMTA-Member Maggie Hernandez of Omaha, NE, one of this year’s Nebraska Chapter's IMPACT MAKERS
Here's is the info you should know about Maggie in her own words:
LMT years: 20 years
AMTA years: 20 years
Business: Solo practice/hospital in Omaha, NE practicing Swedish, Oncology and hot stone massage.
Family/Life outside of work: Reading, travel and photography. My husband and I have visited all 50 states, and are now photographing national parks to our list.
How do you promote the massage therapy profession in your community: I do massage for Oncology patients at a local hospital. Many of them have never had massage before. For 18 years I have done chair massage for quilt and scrapbook retreats. I have been told by numerous people that the massage was their favorite part of the retreat.
In what ways do you participate in your community: I’m in the Omaha Camera Club and am quite active in my church.
Do you have any words of wisdom to share that have helped you in your career:
For me, taking Oncology courses has been huge. I hope that more massage therapists would look to helping this population. I have a friend with neuropathy. I massaged her lower legs and feet weekly for about 6 weeks, and she has feeling in her feet for the first time in 30 years! She has been able to decrease her medication for the neuropathy.
